Can you have multiple bases in Palworld?
The short answer is yes, you can have more than one base in Palworld. Technically, you can have unlimited bases because you can build most structures freely anywhere in the world which means outposts or watered-down bases are free game. However, bases that have official Palboxes are a different story.
The inner workings of all bases outside of your first Palbox base will be bound by a stricter rule set, especially before reaching the following level milestones.
Palworld base unlock levels:
- Initially, you can only have one Palbox down at a time.
- When that Palbox reaches level 10, you can place a second Palbox somewhere else.
- When your Palbox reaches level 15, you can place a third and final Palbox.
The Palbox is a mechanic that creates a unique base building design in Palworld. Strictly speaking, you can build a full-sized and functioning base without a Palbox; however, being unable to assign any Pals to work on it would make passive resource acquisition out of the question. Anything you wanted done on that base would need to be done by a player, meaning it would never be able to function independently.
An excellent way to think of this might be to have one primary base before Base Level 10 and two primary bases after—although you can have as many secondary bases as you wish, starting from any level.
Palworld max bases: How many can you have?
The max number of bases in Palworld is three. Each base slot unlocks after leveling up. The second base unlocks at base level 10, while the third and final base unlocks at base level 15.
Again, these limits are specifically for bases that include a Palbox. Unofficial outpost style bases are free to be built anywhere, though you won’t have fast travel capabilities to them.
How to build another base in Palworld
You must reach Base Level 10 on your first Palbox to build a fully functioning and self-sufficient second base. Once your first base is level 10, you will be given the option to place a second Palbox somewhere else in the world, and that second Palbox will start at level 10. This means you can assign a crew of 10 Pals to your second base right off the bat, and you won’t have to repeat the somewhat pesky assignments to raise your base’s level over again.
You can start a secondary base at any point if you don’t care about having a Palbox. If you do this, build your unofficial second base near a Fast Travel point, as you can only travel directly to your base if it has a Palbox.
How to move your base in Palworld
To move your base in Palworld, disassemble your current Palbox. This allows you to create another one in a new location. When you do this, all of your Pals will be transferred to your new Palbox, meaning there is no chance of accidentally leaving anyone behind.
To move your base in Palworld, you must:
- Open your map.
- Hover over your current base.
- Hold the button to disassemble (V on PC).
- You will be given a pop-up prompt asking if you want to disassemble before continuing.
Similar to how the second Palbox you unlock at base level 10 starts at the level of your current one, disassembling your Palbox to relocate it preserves your current Base Level. If you decide to do this, you will not have to start over from scratch. You will have to rebuild all your structures for your new base.
Best places to set up a base in Palworld
When you set out to make a base, there are a few things you’ll want to keep track of to make sure you choose one of the best base locations in Palworld.
- A spot with plenty of flat terrain and space.
- As you level up your base, you’ll need a lot of wide-open spaces for various upgrades and structures.
- A spot that you can defend.
- Every once in a while, your base can be raided by Syndicate members or other Pals. If you choose a spot like a ledge or nicely closed-off valley, it’ll give you a homefield advantage whenever enemies march your way.
Whenever you’re base-building in Palworld, try and keep all of your structures within the blue circle that’s centered around your Palbox. True, you can build outside of the circle, but anything you build outside of the circle will deteriorate over time. Not only that, but Pals only work on/in structures placed within the blue circle.
- A spot that isn’t near any fast travel points.
- Palworld is littered with unlockable fast travel points, but wherever you set up your base will work as a fast travel point. If there’s a spot that you think needs a fast travel point, that could be a great place for your base.
- Resources, resources, and more resources.
- Without a doubt, you’ll need loads of materials as you play Palworld. A base with access to plenty of trees or even a few Ore veins for making an Ore farm will be a huge boon. Some places are definitely more suitable Ore farm locations than others, but as long as you have some type of Ore vein nearby your base you should be fine.
