How to create an Ore farm in Palworld

You can dig yourself or get some Pals to help.

Gathering resources is at the core of Palworld’s gameplay loop since weapons, structures, and virtually every other item require collectible materials to craft and produce. Ore is one such material, and one of the easiest ways to get a lot of it passively is by creating an Ore farm

Some materials like wood and stone can be easily farmed in Palworld by creating production structures like a Logging Site in your base, however, there is no such option for Ore that you can build. If you want to collect lots of Ore to refine it into Ingots, you either need to collect it manually with your pickaxe or set up a custom Ore farm.

How to farm Ore fast in Palworld

Setting up a base in an area that has Ore within its perimeter is essential if you want to farm it using your Pals. There is no Production structure you can unlock and craft that produces Ore from scratch, so you must have a naturally spawned Ore deposit in your base perimeter that your Pals can reach easily.

Here’s the fastest way to farm Ore in Palworld:

  1. Upgrade your Palbox
    • You’ll likely want a whole base dedicated to an Ore farm. You can only build a second base when you upgrade your Palbox to level 10.
  2. Choose the right spot:
    • Find a place where you can see lots of Ore. This means you’ll always have nodes to farm. Place a new Palbox close to all of them.
  3. Mine the Ore using Pals with Level 2 Mining:
    • Use Pals with Level 2 Mining or higher in their Work Suitability, like Dumud, Penking, and Digtoise. They are the only ones that can break down Ore deposits and should naturally gravitate towards mining Ore from the available deposit.
  4. Collect the Ore using Pals with Transportation suitability:
    • Have some Pals with Transportation in their Work Suitability. They’ll take the Ore from where it’s mined to where you store it.
  5. Store the Ore:
    • Build a Wooden Chest at your base. This is where your Pals will transport the collected Ore to, keeping it all in one spot.
  6. Build the correct infrastructure:
    • Good working conditions are essential in Palworld. Place Pal Beds so your Pals have a place to sleep and keep their Sanity levels decent.
    • Set up a Berry Plantation and a Feed Box. This way, your Pals won’t go hungry.
    • Add a Hot Spring. It will let your Pals recover Sanity automatically when it drops.
  7. Grow Food Automatically:
    • Assign Pals with Planting, Watering, and Harvesting in their Work Suitability so the whole process of planting, growing, harvesting, and moving berries to the Feed Box is automated.

In this well-oiled setup, your Mining Pals are constantly at work extracting Ore, while your Transportation Pals carry the mined Ore straight to your storage, which could be something as straightforward as a Wooden Chest. Meanwhile, the Berry Plantation ensures a steady supply of food is always available in the Feed Box for when your Pals get hungry. And, whenever they need a break or their Sanity starts to dip, the Hot Spring is ready.

When you’re looking for a place to start your Ore Farm, go for an area with a lot of Ore close together. I built mine just west of the Plateau of Beginnings, right at coordinates 6, -528. In this spot, you’ll always find six to eight Ore nodes to gather from. From there, make a Pal Box and establish a new base in that spot—make sure the blue outline of the base covers as many Ore deposits as possible before setting the Pal Box down. This will automate the process of collecting Ore as long as you keep Pals with those Work Suitability traits working at the base.

Once you get your Ore, you can make a Furnace and use a Pal with a Kindling Work Suitability, like Rooby or Arsox, to turn it into Ingots, which are very important for building upgraded weapons and structures. If your Ore Farm is your second or third base and you’d rather have the Furnace in your primary base, just make sure you can carry enough Ore from one place to the other. I personally like having a Furnace in the Ore farm since one Ingot weighs less than one Ore, making it easier to move the items to other bases.

Best spots to farm Ore passively

Here are the coordinates of areas close to the Plateau of Beginnings with lots of Ore nodes to farm:

  • 6, -528, in the arid area west of Plateau of Beginnings.
  • 70, -400, next to the Desolate Curch.
  • -75, -318, south of the Cinnamoth Forest Great Eagle Statue.
  • -257, -362, just west of the Sealed Realm of the Thunder Dragon

Best Pals for an Ore Farm in Palworld

From my experience, the best Pals to assign to your Ore farm in Palworld to run it efficiently are:

  • Two or three Digtoise, for Ore farming.
  • Two Lamball, for harvesting and transporting.
  • One Mammorest, for Ore farming and Planting.
  • One Bristla, for Planting, Gathering, and Transporting.
  • One Gobfin, for Watering and Transporting.
  • One Arsox, if you have a Furnace.
  • One Dumud, for Ore farming and Watering.
  • Other support pals for extra Transporting, like Vanwyrm, Hangyu, etc.

Remember, you can tweak this setup as you progress in Palworld. Later in the game, you’ll come across Pals even better at carrying stuff than Lamball. But honestly, I settled on this setup in the midgame, and it worked great for getting all the Ore I needed for crafting. If you’re still early in the game, you can simplify things. Just try to match Pals with similar work skills. The one thing you really can’t skip is having Pals with at least Mining Level 2. They’re the only essential piece of an Ore farm.
